When is a bariatric surgery considered successful?

An operation for morbid obesity is considered successful when it results in a loss equal to or greater than 85% of the excess weight, within 18 months of the date of surgery, as well as maintaining normal weight over time.

When a different procedure is chosen from the appropriate one, there is a risk of weight gain within 36 months.
